Peter Paul Rubens was the most sought-after painter in northern Europe during the seventeenth century. He was a Flemish Baroque painter, a diplomat, linguist and scholar. His emotional rich texture, vivid color and lively movement influenced Western art a lot. He was very famous for landscapes, portraits, history paintings and counter-reformation altarpieces. His father was a Calvinist.
Peter Paul Rubens and his mother moved to Antwerp two years after his father's death. He was raised as a Catholic, which have a great influence on his works. He was also influenced by Michelangelo, Titian, Caravaggio and Pieter Bruegel the Elder.
