John William Waterhouse (8/29)
Diogenes of Sinope was a Greek philosopher who pursued the Cynic ideal of self-sufficiency. He believed virtue was revealed in action. In the Diogenes 1882 oil painting, he lived in a large bub. Besides him, there is a lantern. He carried the lantern in the daytime to look for an honest man.
